(Scroll down for video) An extremely obese woman fell through a cement sidewalk in New York City, but claimed that her life was saved because she is fat, according to press reports in New York City.

The overweight woman was pulled from under the sidewalk in the Upper East Side section of Manhattan, after the concrete floor collapsed under her and she fell into the six-foot deep hole, emergency rescue workers reported.

The 31-year-old woman was standing next to the wall of an Atomic Wings store at the corner of East 60th Street and Second Avenue, when the sidewalk collapsed about 9:15 p.m. Friday, police who responded to the scene said.

Rescuers were forced to use a crane-like mechanism to pull the woman up. Sources said that she weighed around 350 pounds.

The woman, who is from the Rochdale neighborhood of Queens, was taken to New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical Center and treated for minor injuries.

“I was saved from more serious injuries because I am so fat,” the woman said.
