(Scroll down for video) Hundreds of hospital patients in New York, were exposed to the deadly HIV virus, the Department of Health said in a press release.
The Veterans Administration has told Western New York members of Congress, that more than 700 patients at the Buffalo Veterans Medical Center may have been exposed to HIV, hepatitis B or hepatitis C due to accidental reuse of insulin pens.
Authorities said that there is a slight chance that diabetic patients may have been exposed to reused insulin pens.
The memo said that the problem was revealed by a routine pharmacy inspection.
A hospital spokesperson said that the needles were always changed, but an insulin pen may have been used in more than one patient.
The VA is offering free blood tests to rule out any infection, according to a press release.
