(Scroll down for video) Some leftover British weapon from the War of Independence, was found in New York City, according to a statement from the New York City Police Department.

New York Police said that an 18th century cannon, which was loaded with gunpowder and a cannon ball, was found during a routine cleaning in the Central Park Conservancy.

Police said that the residual powder was discovered after a bit of rust was removed on Friday, from the barrel, thus showing the cannonball. Authorities were called to remove the gunpowder from the barrel and
make the piece of history safe for public display. The gun came from a ship of the British Royal Navy, from between 1763 to 1780.

According to reports, the cannon was discovered during a cleaning of an old shed. Packing material, gunpowder and a cannonball are occasionally found inside the cemented cannons when they are checked during routine cleaning.
