Florida man killed after his dog pushes car accelerator

A Florida man, who went for a car ride along with his dog, was killed after the dog hit the accelerator, according to press reports in Florida.

We've all seen tragic headlines about a man or a woman who was killed by their best friend, the dog. Now, James Campbell died after his dog jumped into his truck and landed on the accelerator of the vehicle.

According to reports, Campbell, who was 68 years old, has just returned home with Iris Fortner, who is 56 years old, and had stood by the entrance to his home in the Florida Panhandle.

Campbell came out and stepped behind the vehicle to open the door of the front driver side to see where the dog was.

It was then that his dog allegedly jumped, landing on the accelerator of the vehicle. The Florida Highway Patrol said that Fortner tried to stop the truck, but Campbell was caught below it.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by officials.
