A man was arrested and charged with rape after raping his fiance, according to court proceedings in Ireland.
The man, who was identified by police as a recovering alcoholic, had quit drinking for several months, until the night he attacked his girlfriend.
On that night, he tried to force his partner to drink vodka from a bottle, raped and assaulted her at her home in County Donegal.
The accused man, who has not been identified, pleaded guilty to rape, aggravated sexual assault and assault.
The Irish Central Criminal Court heard that the two were in a relationship on the night when the incident occurred. They have a child together, but have been separated.
In the morning before the event, the couple, who are both recovering alcoholics, had gone to the
city where they paid some bills. That day, they also purchased an engagement ring.
Later that night, the accused man went to clubs and drank heavily throughout the night, the court heard. The man later returned to the house he shared with his partner after 3:00 A.M., when the incident happened.
The woman allegedly suffered very severe contusion around the face and eyes. She waited in the house until the defendant fell asleep, and then she ran away.
