(Scroll down for video) A husband who shot and killed his wife, killed himself during his daughter’s sweet 16 party, according to a statement released by the police in Texas.

Police said that the husband shot and killed his wife before committing suicide during the birthday party celebration of his daughter after an argument broke out.

An argument turned the celebration into a tragedy as Kelly Suckla, 43, killed Kristi Suckla, 44, near the front door of her parents' house Saturday night in Grapevine.

Kristi moved with her daughter and her 21-year-old son into her parents' home about two months ago.

It is unclear when she and Kelly separated, but the couple seemed to have remained friendly, members of the family said.

"The family members were aware that he was going to be there," Sergeant Robert Eberling of the Grapevine Police Department said. "So I think that pretty much everyone is surprised," he added.

Family members were gathered at the party when the shots were heard, but no one witnessed the shooting.

Investigators said that they do not know what started the argument, but said that Kelly used a gun to shoot Kristi and then himself.
