(Scroll down for video) A teacher was arrested and charged with child rape, according to court proceedings in North Carolina.

Now, the disgraced former high school teacher quietly married the minor student she allegedly had an affair with in North Carolina.

Perhaps the best wedding gift she received was from prosecutors, who dropped their case against the newlywed.

Leah Gayle Shipman, 42, faced several charges, including statutory rape and taking indecent liberties with a student stemming from her arrest, which led to her expulsion from the Brunswick County Academy.

The case fell apart because she married Johnnie Ison. Under North Carolina law, a husband does not have to testify against his wife. Without Ison’s sworn testimony, the prosecution had no case.

Her romance with Ison allegedly began when he was just 15 years old. If she had been convicted, she face up to 15 years in prison.

Shipman’s 19-year marriage ended before she married the student. Six days after the divorce papers were signed, she married Ison. His mother gave written permission for the wedding, because he was a minor at the time.

The marriage became known now as Shipman pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest last month.
