A New York Police Department captain is under fire after beating his girlfriend until she fell unconscious, according to court proceedings in Queens, New York.

The New York City police captain has been arrested and charged after punching his girlfriend, who is also a police sergeant, with such force that she lost consciousness.

NYPD Captain Aaron Wright, 38, was arrested Friday in the 105th precinct, which includes Queens Village, Cambria Heights, Rosedale and other communities in Queens. He was charged with criminal mischief, assault and harassment.

Police did not release additional information. Wright, a captain of the Internal Affairs Bureau, who helped oversee an investigation into a ticket-fixing scandal in the Bronx, attacked his girlfriend from the Domestic Violence Unit 46th Precinct, Sergeant Nicole McFarlane, 38, at his home in Queens.

Wright was waiting for McFarlane, when she stopped at his house in her 2006 Nissan Ultima, and kicked the driver's side door twice before hitting her so hard that she lost consciousness.

Police said that McFarlane first claimed that a stranger had attacked her, but surveillance video indicated otherwise. She later said it was Wright who attacked her.
