(Scroll down for video) A two-year-old boy miraculously survived home alone after his mother suddenly died of natural causes, according to police in Oregon.
Police found the hungry and thirsty two-year-old boy on Wednesday, at his home in Portland.
The child had survived for two days after his mother, 40-year-old Micaela Quinn, died suddenly of natural causes.
Sergeant Pete Simpson said that a friend of Quinn, had contacted police after she had not seen her friend for a number of days. Police went to her house to check on her welfare Wednesday morning at 8:30 a.m.
A neighbor, Amber Sawney, said that she was devastated.
"You know, if anything happened to me I would feel the same for my child. A little boy himself, no mom, no one to care for him. It's sad," Sawney said.
Police said that the child is in good health, but was taken to a hospital for a checkup. The Department of Human Services will try to find relatives to care for the child.
"It's really heartbreaking. We can only assume what this poor guy was thinking about the last couple of days. Fortunately, the little one is fine,” Simpson said.
"It's a good reminder that people have to look out for each other," he said.
