A Playboy model was arrested, charge and convicted of fraud after accepting thousands of dollars in welfare payments despite the fact that she was having a large income, prosecutors in the United kingdom said.
Now, 43-year-old Julia Martinez was sentenced by the Bristol Crown Court, to nine months in jail, which was suspended for one year.
Martinez admitted she received thousands of dollars in income support, disability payments and tax waivers. Martinez of Cheltenham, pleaded guilty to five counts of falsely claiming benefits for a period of three years.
Martinez told social workers that she was unable to work. She appeared at court hearings in a wheelchair while using a neck brace.
The court heard that Martinez has a successful modeling and acting career and even appeared on Playboy movies. She also had an alias to send money to Spain, in an attempt to avoid detection.
Martinez admitted to one count of making false statements when applying for income support.
She also pleaded guilty to one count of falsely claiming disability allowance and two charges of claiming that she was entitled to tax relief.
