A young woman was arrested on charges of murder after fatally shooting her brother as her 5-year-old sister watched, prosecutors in California said.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced that 25-year-old Jessica Paige Greenback, was charged with shooting her brother to death and attempting to kill her father and another man.
Greenback of Canyon Country, faces one count each of murder, child abuse and false imprisonment by violence, and two counts of attempted murder.
Greenback appeared at Department S of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, San Fernando Branch. The defendant used a handgun to commit the crimes.
Greenback lived in an apartment shared by her brother Johnnie, her father and her 5-year-old sister, prosecutors said.
The defendant allegedly shot her brother to death, shot her father in the head and shot at her father’s friend, who had spent the night at the residence, prosecutors added.
Greenback also is accused of not allowing her young sister to leave the room where the shooting took place, according to prosecutors.
Prosecutors are requesting bail be set at more than $6 million. If convicted as charged, Greenback faces a possible maximum sentence of life in state prison.
