A teacher was arrested, charged and convicted of rape after raping and having sex with a relative, prosecutors in the United Kingdom said.
Now, Owen Barclay, 39, was sentenced to serve 13 years in jail.
At the Basildon Crown Court, Barclay was found guilty of the offenses after trial.
He received 13 years for rape, ten years for attempted rape and two years for sexual intercourse with an adult relative, all to run concurrently.
Barclay was charged with offenses relating to two women. The matters against each victim were separated at court and he was first tried for two counts of rape against the first victim and found guilty. He was sentenced to five years for each of the rapes to run concurrently.
Following a trial regarding the offenses against the second victim, Barclay was found guilty of three out of four offenses he faced before a jury.
Investigating officer Dc Carol Sartain from the South Sexual Offences Investigation Team said: “He has presented himself throughout the trial as a man of good character, a former teacher with strong ties to the community and his church. He fails to accept he has done anything wrong in abusing his victims in this way, which is what makes him such a dangerous man.”
During the most recent trial, Barclay made allegations that the victim was a liar, a prostitute and suggested she had made previous allegations against another man, which were completely unfounded.
At no point has he shown any remorse for the offenses he has been found guilty of committing.
