A man was arrested, charged and convicted of sexual assault after sexually assaulting a woman in her home, prosecutors in the United Kingdom said.

Now, the man of West Cumbria, was sentenced to nine years in prison at the Carlisle Crown Court.

Michael Anthony Graham, 25, was charged with sexual assault, trespass with intent to commit a sexual offense, assault, and criminal damage.

He pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing. Graham hid in the 27-year-old woman’s bedroom.

He proceeded to sexually and physically assault her during the course of the night, and flushed her phone down the toilet so that she could not call for help.

Detective Constable Emma Davidson, from Cumbria Constabulary’s Public Protection Unit, said: “Violent and abusive behavior, of any sort, is not tolerated in Cumbria. This case shows that we will look to prosecute anyone who acts in this way.

“Graham’s actions were shocking – particularly as the attack happened in the victim’s home, and she was unaware he had broken into her house.”
