(Scroll down for video) A teacher was arrested on charges of child abuse after allegedly abusing a student by placing a plastic bag on her head, prosecutors in California said.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced that the fourth grade teacher at Rosewood Elementary School in Los Angeles, was charged with one count of child abuse for allegedly placing the plastic bag over the student’s head in class.
Thelmo Garcia, 38, is being held on $100,000 bail. Deputy District Attorney Samuel Hulefeld with the Family Violence Division is handling the case.
Garcia allegedly placed the plastic bag over the 10-year-old girl’s head during class. After several seconds, he removed the bag.
If convicted, he faces up to six years in state prison.
